enough time discussing ways to help them assimilate into civilian life. as the son of a u.s. air force veteran who spent 31 years in the air force, i'm acutely aware, as coul kay is, that it t just those that wear the uniform that serve, but their families as well. many returning vets and their families encounter a whole range of social and economic hardships that can be hard to overcome. most notably, the unemployment rate among our returning vets from afghanistan and iraq is significantly higher than for the general population, something i know kay has worked on extensively. she's also worked to get our veterans the medical assistance, the job training and the financial support they need. indeed, i don't know of any senator that's done more to help america's heroes adjust to life after the military. that's just one of the reasons why she will be sorely missed. here's another reason, though: kay has fought time and time again to promote tax relief for hardworking texas families. in thehooin the mid-1990's, shed create the so-called homemaker ira to make sure that stay-at-home moms and

for our great country. the other forces? the transports, banks, u.s. treasury bonds and gold. first, you know i like to watch the transports as a measurement of economic activity. you know it has to be shipped somewhere to be sold. that is why i follow the transports so closely. when they are going up it means there is more commerce happening than thought. planes, trains, truckers and shippers going higher, that above all, is a terrific predictor of growth. today the transports showed signs of growth. i got more negative. a real break out. that would be a signal of a genuine expansion on the rise. the action signaling that could happen. second, the banks are now breaking out of the ranks with the transports. look at the xlf. that is a exchange trade fund. this group is moving to the upside. one that is necessary if we are going to see a legitimate and lasting recovery. it looks like it has had a big run. it is still less than half of where it was a few years ago. we will look at the trading in goldman sachs. it has been lured back to life. that is the case with bank of america. just to g

they noticed a fire in a storage unit. here is video earlier and they allow us to get a little closer. there is not a lot of damage but these are just items of the fire department brought out the was doused with water. while there were fighting the fire they notice a body was inside the storage unit. they stated that they're not sure if this person actually lives at this apartment complex. the body had burns to the body and they're not sure whether not this is the reason a person died. it will be of to the corner to do the autopsy. they're still investigating whether not this person was a resident. >> they're not sure if someone was fully clothed in just enter the storage unit. they're not sure if it is a man or a woman. they are waiting for people to wake up so that they could talk to possible witnesses. if they stated they are not thinking that this was a suspicious fire. >> a lockdown at san jose city college has been lifted after officers spent several hours searching the campus for a reported gunmen. the campus was locked down kron 430 yesterday afternoon after school officials r

general motors buying $5.5 billion worth of stock from the u.s. government's t.a.r.p. program. and it was at a price $2 above where gm traded yesterday. that's right. we, the people, got a better deal than we could've ever hoped for just the day before. gm most likely would have been liquidated, putting more than 1 million people out of work. if the federal government hadn't bailed it out. nobody likes a bailout. people don't like to use the phrase bailout and the government isn't going to be made whole in this investment. i'm saying that point-blank. that's because it's so gigantic. the simple fact is also not only does gm exist, but it was capable of throwing off $5.5 billion to repay some of the t.a.r.p. investment. this thing was at death's door, now it's thriving, just like aig which also shouldn't have come back, but it did. those are two 2012 success stories that explain how robust corporate america really is and how unheralded that development is. what else? how about that the united states is producing more oil than any time in the last 17 years and producing enough t
